FOX has been talking a lot of shit lately about Georgie’s legacy, and how – despite everything else, at least he kept us “safe”.

Safe? For what insane, short-sighted definition of “safe”? How many servicemen have died in a country that was headed by a guy that Osama saw as an infidel? How are we safe when every Muslim teenager in Europe, the US, the Middle East, Africa, South America, and Asia have just spent the last 8 years watching other Muslims get killed on TV by US soldiers? How are we safe when Pakistan is on the verge of collapse and its nuclear arsenal is up for grabs? How are we safe when all our oil money goes to the same people who funded 9-11? How are we safe when bin Laden’s rational behind 9-11 was to start a war between the Islamic world and the Western world? How are we safe when our ability to fund the measures that inspect ships and patrol borders is decreasing rapidly? How are we safe when the past 7 years has been the greatest recruitment tool the extremists could have ever asked for? How are we safe when we’re fighting a war of attrition with 3/5th of the 3rd world? How are we safe when our economy, our technological edge, and our ability to influence to world have all declined over the past 7 years?

How the hell are we safe when everything that Texan fool and his pack of traitors has done, played right into the hands of those who hate us most?

We haven’t had an attack. Fine. We’ve lost more people to Iraq then we did to 9-11. We’ve lost more liberty to GWB then to OBL. We’ll lose more people to diabetes, heart disease and diseases - that could have been prevented if the government hadn’t intervened in science - then we will to biological WMD. We’ve had more radiation pumped into our air by trace uranium from coal plants then by dirty bombs. Just because it isn’t done by foreigners doesn’t mean it isn’t killing you.

You know, it's kind of funny how nearly everyone in the Republican Party thinks that the people who started Gitmo had the mental capacity to ensure that the system responsible for sending people there was proofed against false-positives.

Christ! This is the same team who brought us 1) A drowned American city. 2) A collapsed financial system. 3) A botched war in Iraq. 4) Expanding nuclear programs in Iran and N Korea. 5) 9-11, because the POTUS couldn't be bothered to read a report entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US" 6) The shredding of our 50-year old system of alliances. 7) A resurgent Russia that knows that America can't afford to even threaten to open up a 3rd front. 8) A scientific reputation that is now laughed at because our former president thinks that our planet is 6000 years old. 9) Harriet Miers for WHAT?!?! 10) A Muslim world inflamed by Gitmo and Abu Garib, that sees the jihads in Iraq and Afganistan as excellent employment opportunities. 11) A economic recession that leaves us with a current unemployment rate of ~7.2% 12) etc. etc. etc. etc.

I could go on for hours. The one thing he had to bring us to be a success was Osama’s head, but he didn't, and he probably doesn't think it's his fault.

So, in short: We will never be safe, but destroying the two main weapons in America’s arsenal – our economic strength and our reputation of being a relatively benign hegemon – has made us vulnerable. Without those two pillars of strength propping up our nation, we stand a real chance of losing our ability to defend ourselves not only against terrorists, but against more conventional threats.
